U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he expects there to be substantive negotiations between the United States and China on trade this weekend and predicted that punitive U.S. tariffs on Beijing of 145% would likely come down.

In a potential shift in the ongoing trade war, President Donald Trump has hinted at reducing the high tariffs on China. This comes ahead of a crucial meeting between top trade officials from both nations in Switzerland.

The president said reducing tariffs to 80 percent from the current 145 percent “sounds right,” as U.S. and Chinese negotiators prepare to meet in Switzerland.
