A bilateral trade deal between India and the United Kingdom could be signed after three months and will take over a year to implement, an Indian government official said on Thursday.

India and Britain struck a “landmark” trade deal Tuesday, the UK government said, marking progress on lowering and removing tariffs just as President Donald Trump is busy raising US import taxes to historic levels.

The two countries signed a deal three years after negotiations began to strengthen alliances in what the British prime minister called a “new era” of trade.
